5/31/12-Juliet reaction

I believe that Juliet will be very sad of the news of Romeo being banished and will become depressed and possibly kill herself. I believe this because I know that in Romeo and Juliet they both die and this may be the start of how they both die.

5/24/12 shakspeare today

I do agree with the article because as the article stated there are still dozens of movies being made for shakespeares plays.There are holidays dedicated to him, and two globe thearters made in his honor in Japan and England. Also because of how Shakespeare words his plays it attracts many people and that is why he has influenced many cultures.

5/22/12-Romeo and Juliet

The prologue is telling us about the setting which is in Fair Verona. The prologue also foreshadows that a struggle will happen between two characters. And that the parents will be sad or mad.

5/16/12 the sniper

In the story a sniper is on his post on a roof during the night. He wants to have a smoke but the light from the match alerts another enemy sniper across the street on another roof. As he is hiding a enemy vehicle comes and a man comes out of a turret and a women talks to him and points to the roof he is on. The lady was telling of his position so he shot the man in the turret and the women, as this is happening he is shot in the arm and drops his gun. He then tends to his wound and creates a plan that makes the other sniper think that he is dead. The other sniper falls for his plan and comes out of hiding, he is then shot and killed. The sniper then gets curious to who the sniper is and goes to see, it ends up being his brother because he was someone who changed sides in the war.

5/14/12 Republicans

I do believe that we should make the cuts, because even though we are taking money out of different places that are useful we apparently need the extra money to fund more important things. Although I think it might be a better idea to take the money out of somewhere other then medicare.

5/10/12 parking fees

I think that the parking fees should be lowered because it will decrease business for certain businesses in Portland, and it makes it more difficult to find a spot to park in the city so that you can be in the city. I think that raising the price of parking has more cons than pros, and we should have the price kept lowered.

5/8/12-introduction

Foreshadowing has been a common element in literature throughout the years of writing.  In the novel Of Mice and Men John Steinbeck shows many excellent examples of foreshadowing throughout the book. Carleson killing Candy’s dog, a heron eating the snake, and Lennie grabbing onto a ladies dress and panicking are all good examples of foreshadowing the pivotal events of the book Of Mice and Men. This effect makes the tone of the book dark and ominous.

5/4/12- To a mouse

This poem relates to Mice and Men because in the poem the mouses house gets destroyed by the farmers plow, the idea of the house was a good idea. In Of Mice and Men George and Lennie have the good idea of owning a ranch together, but the plan never follows through because Lennie kills a women and so George has to shoot him. The plow from the poem is like all of the troubles Lennie had caused in the end of the book, which led to the destruction of the plan of the ranch. The mouse's house from the poem can also be related to the plan of the ranch from Mice and Men because both were good ideas, they just didn't work.

4/30/12-mice and men chapter 4

After reading chapter 4 I think that Lennie and George will end up getting their farm and property and it will be a happy ending and also the other man may get the farm with them. I believe this because in the chapter Lennie discussed how he almost had enough money to by their ranch and that the other man could also chip in with the ranch.

4/26/12 college debt

I find this article scary because I hope that I will not be in some of the situations that these kids are in. I guess a college education is worth the debut because most good paying jobs require a college education. I do not know many options that there are so that you do not have student debut, one being have the money so you don't have debuts.

4/23/12 spring break

Over vacation I stayed in South Portland and went on adventures with friends and stayed at home. I enjoyed the vacation and was glad to have time of and to get away from school for awhile. I have mixed feelings about being back in school but overall it is okay to be back.

4/10/12-highschool

I agree with the bill being passed because it will allow kids to actually master the subjects needed for college so they don't have to take courses to help them take college courses. I also believe it will make the youth more educated.

In chapter 2 my favorite new character is Slim because he seems like the cool guy on the ranch and he also seems to be friendly, unlike curly and the boss.

I do agree with the ideals of this article because our generation has become too attached with technology and it is causing problems. As the tests showed even without a day of technology some people experienced anxiety, which is not good.

The Dust Bowl of the 1930's was a series of dust storms that devastated agricultural areas and farmers who made crops there. It was caused by deep plowing of virgin topsoil and since their was less grass their was ore dirt and sand to be whipped up. And since there was a drought it made the soil turn into dust, which helped in making the dust storms.

I believe that assisted suicide should be legal because under certain circumstances people feel that they have a right to decide when they want to die, and if they are a huge burden on their loved ones. Although it seems harsh I believe it is best to not have people live past when they are suppose to, it costs huge sums of money and overall would help the economy.

Given the circumstances I would probably help save my best friends life if I could. Although I would not give my best friend a huge sum of money.

A good friend is someone who will stay by your side, be truthful with you, and sympathize with you. A certain situation that could show these qualities is if you were being bullied by someone and your good friend stepped up for you and stood by your side.

I think that the state should fund public broadcasting because MPBN gets a fair amount of its money from the state and it has a fair amount of viewers. If MPBN didn't get this sum of money they might not be able to have their station state wide, and for some people it is the only source of knowledge of what is going on in the state.

I think that it should be banned from schools and supermarkets because it is the lowest grade of meat and we should have healthy cuts or types of meat. It is not healthy and we should change how we eat.

I agree with what the author is saying in this article because I agree that we should not interfere with the first amendment and Rush does have the right for people to listen to him and for him to speak.

I believe that what the Saints were doing was wrong and did not set a good example for youths or people that look up to them. The NFL should not be able to place bounties because that is not what the game is about, it is moraly wrong and could end up in serious injuries.

I think that Maine should extend the statutes of limitations in these cases because I think that all cases should at least have 15 years in order to take the courage to tell what would happen. Because I think it has more benefit than drawbacks.

At this time I guess that  the teachers action should be taken seriously because of recent shootings, but I also do think that people are too sensitive. But he probably should have known that at least one person would have taken his words seriously.

2/28/12-bullying

I think that schools in certain areas should stand up and create a better bullying system. I don't believe that bullying is a major issue in South Portland Highschool but that it is a minor issue. To make this a better school I think we are doing the right thing with making the renovations.

2/17/12-education changes

LePage wants students to be able to decided where they want to go to school, so they don't have to just go to the school of their district. I believe that it could end up being a good idea, but there is a lot of things to go over first. It could be a good change in education for kids, for instance if they want to go to a school not in their district or want to try new schools.

12/15/12 -door in the wall

This story is about a man interviewing a man named Wallace, who when he was five ran away from his home and ended up finding a green door that led to a magnificent garden. It seemed that the garden was not part of reality, and was almost a whole different world, in the garden he ran into a old man, some panthers, and a old lady who showed him a book. The book was almost like a movie playing his life on each page, except when it got to the point in his life when he got into the garden it did not show anything, as if it never happened. The women then kisses him on the forehead and he is back in reality and taken home by a cop. He then does not go back to the garden for a long time and ends up dying by killing himself. The man that interviews him thinks that he was possibly crazy or that he had a gift.

The author says that the Odyssey is relevant because it shows the characteristics of man, such as a constant dependence on others, the presence of a greater vision, or lack of a greater vision, and the showing of a sensitive side behind courage and pride. I agree with the opinion that this author has because there is multiple examples that back up his opinion.

I believe in the view of Clint Eastwood because I like to believe that our country will pull through our problems. I also like the positive aspect of the commercial, I hope that the U.S. will recover.

2/7/12-tell tale heart

This story is about a man who despises a old man's eye and so he plots to get rid of it. At first he just tries to blind the old man's eye by shining a lantern into it for a couple of nights. But after a few days he accidently drops the lantern and the old man awakes and sits in silence trying to find out what made the noise. After a few hours the man shines the lantern light back into the old man's eye which is open, the man cannot stand seeing it and bursts into the room and murders the old man by putting a bed on him. He then disposes of the body and all the time while these events are occurring he talks of how he is not a madman and his senses are heightened. The cops stop by to check on the house because they heard a scream, the man invites them in and lets them search , once satisfied they stay and chat. While this is happening the man is hearing the heart beat of the dead old man because he is mad, it is driving him crazy and he ends up confessing to his murder.

In my opinion, a hero is someone who is brave and is full of charisma. They would stand up for what they believe is right and they would never give up. My hero is Batman because he never gives and and always tries to defeat evil people.

1/30/12 - violette and his pension

I think that Violette should still be getting his pension money because as the article said, he has already payed off everything and he will need it to pay off the debut he incurred. Although it does seem unfair that he is going to keep his pension, he still has to go to jail for at most 5 years.

school lunches 1/26/12

I believe that the government has an obligation to provide healthy for kids in school because in a sense it is the governments job to take care of the citizens in this country. I also think this is true because I don't think kids know how to eat healthy and so the government can help them make healthy choices.

job hopping- 1/24/12

I agree with what this article is saying about job hopping because it takes up time to move and adapt to different job environments, and if you stick with a job you will get better at it and promoted. It does not look good to frequently change jobs either, people may think that you are unreliable.

I do not think that it's important to censor the internet because even though there are many sites that have free things, the censorship would take away from You tube and Wikipedia, which are two sites I use daily. So I do not approve of the censorship of the internet.

I do not believe the bill being proposed is a good idea because my life and millions of other children lives revolve around certain sites around the internet. Also it would ruin jobs for many people working in sites. It would also not let people get free things that is a nice perk.

1/13/12-nike goddess

It makes sense that the company Nike got its name from the goddess Nike because Nike is the Goddess of Victory. Nike, the company, wants people to believe that if they wear their shoes they will win games or athletics that they are in. So that is why Nike, the company, used Nike the goddess for their name.

1/11/12 Lamb of the Slaughter

The story is about a women named Mary Maloney who ends up murdering her husband, how is a detective, with a frozen lamb leg after he says that they should get divorced. Mary ends up trying to make everything seem normal and just go to the grocery store to buy food and puts the frozen lamb leg in the oven to get rid of the evidence. She then calls the police and tells them that when she came back from the grocery, that her husband was dead. The police search the house for clues and ask her questions, but find no evidence for who killed him. Mary ends up getting more evidence taken out of the way by making the cops drink the whiskey that the husband was drinking earlier, and by making them eat the lamb leg that she was cooking. And she most likely ends up getting away with the murder.

I do believe that this is a good idea because it would help people understand who they want getting their welfare. For example a man said,“if ‘those people’ are going to take my money, I should have a say in who gets it”. I agree with this statement because I think that that's a valid point.

I spent my vacation staying in Maine and hanging out with my friends and relaxing around my house. My vacation was a blast and I wished that it lasted longer because it felt very short.
